Before his second birthday, baby enters a period of gluttony. Take advantage of this by carefully introducing him to new flavours.
Avoid the 'explosion' of too many tastes in the mouth. It is important that baby associates tasty dishes with less intense flavours. Try, for example, red meat with sweet potatoes. Once baby is familiar with each different food, introduce another one.,
To subtly enhance the flavour of vegetables (without overpowering them) use spices. Good combinations are coriander and carrot, cumin and pumpkin, thyme and cauliflower.
For baby to discover fully the flavours without also having to deal with new textures at the same time, vegetables can be served at the consistency of mash potatoes (with a more liquid tomato puree to accompany).
If some vegetables are not popular on their own when blended, try combinations. For example, a bean mash might be too stodgy and thick, but adding some courgette can make for a smoother and easier meal.
