Darning is a technique used to repair holes in clothing -
Used for sweaters and socks
The aim is to replace the used part by tightly weaving cross threads over the hole
1) Choose a long needle with a large flat hole and thread or yarn matching in color and texture the material to be repaired
2) For a large hole use four thread thickness and for a small hole one is sufficient
3) Position the hole over a light bulb to facilitate your needle to glide smoothly over the bulb surface making your sticking go faster
4) Start work at 0,5cm from the hole edges both ways width and height

Make a row of small stitches threading the needle from right to left
Turn the work half way around to start second row at 1 to 2 mm of the first and so on
The closer the row and smaller the stitches the stronger the repair
When your stitching reaches the hole, take your thread or yarn over the hole and into the fabric on the other side, forming what resembles a bridge over the hole
Continue until you have gone over into the good material by 0,5cm
5) Turn your work a quarter to start making vertical row of small stitches ensuring to thread your needle alternatively over and under the horizontal threads
6) Once finish cut all loose threads

Once washed wool will tighten slightly rending the repair stronger and opaque
