How to get your newborn baby to sleep through the night
By recreating similar surroundings to what they experienced when they were in their mother's womb, babies are comforted, settled and new parents are not over stressed by constant crying.
Swaddling
Swaddling correctly helps mimic the tight surroundings of the uterus
Side
To prevent Sudden Infant Death Syndrome never place a baby to sleep on his side or stomach
Newborn babies have what is called The Moro reflex, when a baby is lying on his back he may feel like he is falling. This feeling can trigger the Moro reflex and the baby will start thrashing and crying. You can prevent this reflex from being triggered by placing your baby on his side.
Shh!
The noise level inside a mother's womb due to blood rushing through the arteries was equivalent to that of a vacuum cleaner or hair dryer. Anything that produces this level of noise will make them feel at home and help keep them calm.
To quiet a crying baby go "shh" loudly really close to their ears. The sushing has to be louder than the baby's crying in order to work. Try a small radio tuned to static placed near them.
Swing
Babies in their mother's womb become accustomed to movement and find difficult to adjust to the stillness of a crib after they are born. Babies love being rocked, they love movement.
A baby swing used with the other tips can help keep baby happy for hours.
Suck
Babies are born with a desire to suck - Sucking on a pacifier helps to soothe a crying baby - they like it and they need it - If you are against your child having a pacifier then it may be a bit more difficult to calm your baby or to get him to sleep - Of course there are pros and cons to having your baby suck on a pacifier but undue concern about getting a child off the pacifier should not be a deterrent
